Interesting Article on Female Suicide Bombers

Posted by Andrew |

Interesting article examining some of the root causes of suicide missions separated from the usual simplified political and racist rhetoric.

Click here for the article from the NYT.

In 1962 Diane Hoyt beat me in a running race that was about 100 yards "by a mile." I learned then and there that women can be formidable. I was in love with Diane, until I fell in love with your Aunt Kristy, but I could never bring myself to talk to her again. I hope she has had a good life without me. Personally I've never thought that women suicide murderers are any different from their male counterparts. Certainly we know that women tend to see life a tad differently than men do, but to think they have an entirely different motivational mechanism, or that they don't act on religious beliefs, or political reasoning is foolish. Women tend to be more thought filled in approaching life, particularly in youth compared to men...I think. This could explain why they are more target specific in their attacks. Certainly suicide is an act of despare even when it is legitmately done in military settings such as Japan in WWII. The Kamakazi raids were certainly acts of deperation. I am sure that everyone who is subject to suicide terror attacks looks pretty carefully at women now and have been doing so for quite a while. Getting folks out of "despare" seems the key to solving a lot of troubles.

As for this authors solution, get U.S. troops out and in a more supporting role as soon as possible turning the military and police roles back to the Iraqis sounds a lot like the Bush Doctrine to me.
