I've been rather entertained in recent months by the levy of charges being leveled against President Obama and his assortment of ambitious and bold policies (not all of which I agree with). One week he is a fascist, the next a socialist Arab, the third week, a Communist Muslim, and then once again he is a fascist.

I've also enjoyed the random countries which conservative commentators compare the United States too, arguing that if we pass health care reform we will end up like Britain, Canada, France, Switzerland, USSR, Zimbabwe.... etc. For an entertaining view on this, see The Daily Show's analysis below:

The health care debate has been one of the most ridiculous yet. When Sarah Palin is leading the accusations, you know the Republicans have a problem. On that note, here is an additional op-ed by Paul Krugman providing a nuanced look at the different health care systems of other countries.

The article can be found here.

But a Swiss-style system of universal coverage would be a vast improvement on what we have now. And we already know that such systems work.

So we can do this. At this point, all that stands in the way of universal health care in America are the greed of the medical-industrial complex, the lies of the right-wing propaganda machine, and the gullibility of voters who believe those lies.
