Here's an assortment of articles that caught my attention recently -
1. Roger Cohen of the NYT wrote a surprisingly strong op-ed criticizing the US-Israel relationship, somewhat in line with the Mearsheimer and Walt argument in the The Israel Lobby. There are some things I disagree with, but I have been impressed by his boldness over the last year and a half in challenging the usual NYT narrative on the Middle East.
And this: the “existential threat” to Israel is overplayed. It is no feeble David facing an Arab (or Arab-Persian) Goliath. Armed with a formidable nuclear deterrent, Israel is by far the strongest state in the region. Room exists for America to step back and apply pressure without compromising Israeli security.2. Ukraine comes full circle with the re-election of Viktor Yanukovich to the presidency. Yankovich was ousted in 2004 during the so-called "Orange Revolution. (Personally I think Yanukovich, Tymoshenko, and Yushchenko all need to go...)
3. In charges that are very likely true (and not at all surprising), two former Blackwater employees (now Xe Services), are accusing their employer of defrauding the US government and hiring prostitutes for its overseas (mercenaries) contractors in Afghanistan.

Disagree with Cohen, don't know much about Ukrainian politics, am not surprised that Blackwater employees misused some of the millions that were at their disposal. This entire mercenary deal stinks to high heaven.
