Fatah claims victory in first West Bank poll since 2006
"Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas’s Fatah party was on Sunday claiming victory ahead of the results of local elections in the West Bank, in the first such vote since 2006. Although preliminary results were due to be released at 16:00 GMT, Fatah officials and supporters were openly jubilant after 12 hours of voting in a ballot which was boycotted by the rival Hamas movement which rules Gaza."

Qatar’s emir first leader to visit Hamas-run Gaza
"An Egyptian security official says Qatar’s ruler will visit the Gaza Strip on Tuesday. Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani is the first head of state to visit the Palestinian territory since Islamic militant group Hamas seized it in 2007. His visit is seen as a strong nod to Hamas and a sign that the Islamists are slowly emerging from international isolation."

Calm prevails across Beirut following overnight clashes between police, mourners
"Calm prevailed across the Lebanese capital early Monday after gunmen exchanged fire in southern districts of Beirut overnight, Al Arabiya reported. The state funeral of an assassinated Lebanese intelligence chief ended in violence on Sunday when angry mourners broke away and tried to storm the offices of Prime Minister Najib Mikati. Lebanese police clashed with protesters trying to storm the prime minister’s office."

Many injured in Kuwait protest over poll law - Middle East - Al Jazeera English
"Police in Kuwait has used teargas, stun grenades and baton charges to disperse tens of thousands of demonstrators protesting against changes to the electoral law, which the opposition has called a "constitutional coup" by the government. Protesters gathered in various parts of the capital, Kuwait City, on Sunday to march towards the government's headquarters, but riot police swiftly surrounded some groups and used teargas and stun grenades to disperse them, witnesses said."

Investors in push for greener oil sands - FT.com
"A group of 49 investors with more than $2tn under management is launching an initiative on Monday to put pressure on companies operating in the Canadian oil sands to improve their environmental performance. The investors accept that the production from the oil sands of Alberta is going to rise, but want companies such as BP, ConocoPhillips, Royal Dutch Shell, Statoil and Total that are active there to curb their greenhouse gas emissions and water use."
