“A true sign of wisdom is the ability to hold two opposing ideas in one’s head at the same time.”

I’ll be honest, I’m not qute there yet. I just cannot understand the Republican party.

The opinion to follow is going to be a no-holds barred, unequivocal attack on the current Bush Administration and their failure to uphold nearly every value we as Christians should hold dear. There’s the disclaimer, read on at your own discretion.

It has surely been an interesting six years… Let me recap a bit for those too inundated in term papers and stale Valentine’s Day candy to keep up with the recent disgraces. I’ll even group them to make it simple.

Corruption!!!!
1. Tom DeLay - The end of September, Tom DeLay, House majority leader is indicted by a court in Texas on charges of criminal conspiracy for his improper funneling of corporate donations to Republican candidates in the Texas legislature. Of course, James Dobson of Focus on the Family stands behind this Republican thief, stating that the charges were politically motivated. Come on, he’s a crook. Dobson probably would have supported Bush getting a hummer in the Oval Office had he been in Clinton's place...

2. Bill Frist - As if the Democrats weren’t already receiving enough fodder to malign the Republican party, an investigation began into Frist’s sale of stocks in HCA, a company his father started. Soon after his “innocent” sale of stocks, a disappointing earnings forecast was released by HCA.

3. Jack Abramoff - This former high-powered lobbyist pleads guilty in a plea bargain to charges of conspiracy, mail fraud, and tax evasion. His tentacles of influence and money flow well into the current Congress’ pockets.

4. Scooter Libby - He took the fall for the outing of Valerie Plame, a CIA operative, and wife of Joseph Wilson. Clearly he should be the first of many, but Rove and Cheney will surely find ways to get out of their responsibility.

War
1. North Korea - Has nuclear weapons

2. Iran - Almost has nuclear weapons

3. Iraq - Never had nuclear weapons… got rid of biological/chemical weapons in the 1990s. Why did we invade again? Oh, yes, to bring peace, secure democracy, etc. It hasn’t quite worked out so well. Instead the majority of utilities are still below prewar levels, over 2000 American soldiers dead, over 15,000 Iraqi civilians dead, and the country each day edges closer to the precipice of civil war.

Wow, I sure am glad that we elected such a moral administration! But hey, at least they go to church right? Clearly, one’s civil religion does not translate into being an effective, or straightedge leader. If the Democratic party DOESN’T win in November of this year, then they truly are out of touch with the entire American population and deserve to fade into the dust bins of history.
