News Round Up - Bedtime Book, Beck and Bahrain

Posted by Andrew |

I've been slacking with the news updates recently, I apologize. Work has been busy, but the news never stops. The last few days I've been consumed reading the ridiculous statements in the US press and elsewhere about Netanyahu's statements in response to Obama. I've been astounded by the utter treachery of US members of Congress from both sides of the aisle, speaking out against established US policy to support a foreign country over their own.
  • Four of the six Gulf states have been named the countries most vulnerable to a shortage in water supply, risking disruptions to operations and investments, risk consultants Maplecroft said. The oil and gas-rich states Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are at “extreme risk” of interruption to their water supply, topping a list of 186 nations, the firm said in a report.

  • "Oh good!" she said. "Glenn Beck is holding one of his rallies. And this time it's going to be in Israel! And don't worry, Glenn Beck followers. There will be travel deals for you to get yourself physically to Israel to make it convenient for you to bring your subtle nuanced political understanding to a part of the world that really needs you."

  • CAIRO — The wife of former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak relinquished some of her assets to the state on Monday, days after anti-corruption authorities ordered her detention. Suzanne Mubarak returned to a Cairo villa and gave authorities the power of attorney to withdraw up to $3.4 million, which authorities said she held, from two bank accounts, the official MENA news agency said.

  • **Surprise, Glenn Beck once again has no understanding of what he is talking about or for what he is advocating** Glenn Beck, the rightwing American TV and radio host, plans to host a “rally to restore courage” in Jerusalem this August. The announcement on Monday came a day after Israeli troops clashed with pro-Palestinian demonstrators along its borders. The fighting left 13 dead and hundreds wounded.

  • He knows that if Netanyahu continues to entrench the occupation and Palestinian leaders keep nonviolently demanding a state near the Green Line, it won’t ultimately matter what Obama does. The more America sticks by Netanyahu, the less relevant America will become. Other powers will begin taking matters into their own hands, and their strategies for achieving a two-state solution will have none of the tenderness of Dennis Ross. Just last week, German and French companies pulled out of railway projects in the West Bank.

  • The response from his friends was so fierce that Mansbach decided to make his joke book a real one. Go the Fuck to Sleep, which he bills as a "children's book for adults," will hit stores on June 14, published by the Brooklyn press Akashic. If it's not even due for a month, though, how did a little 32-page book already snag a film option deal with Fox 2000 and, today, reach the pinnacle of online publishing commerce world?

  • Undercover agents tracked a Syrian official carrying nuclear secrets to London where they broke into his hotel room and stole the plans as part of a daring operation on foreign soil by Mossad, the Israeli secret service, it has been claimed.
